Rachel Therrien (Bio En)

Trumpet Player for the last ten years, Rachel Therrien studied for nine months in Cuba, 2008-2009, with renowned Cuban musicians such as Chappotin, Yasek Manzano, Gorge Rubio, Emilio Del Monte, and Robertico Garcia. She has also performed with “Anacaona”, the first all woman orchestra in Cuba and who has performed at the Pabellon and the Cabaret Tropical in Havana (Cuba) as well at the “Nuits D’Afrique” at the Kola Note (Montreal). Rachel also played with Rember Duarte at the Jazz Festival Plaza in Havana and participated in three television productions in Cuba (Cuerda Viva, 23 Y M, and A Todo Jazz)…..

Travelling, living new experiences, learning new “Grooves” with new circles of professional musicians, and directing my own “band”…….

To date, Rachel Therrien has started her 2 own Projects; RACHEL THERRIEN QUINTET, with what she works on her own stuff, and LOS QUEBECOS DEL SON; http://www.myspace.com/losquebecosdelson, an authentic traditional cuban style septet. She also worked and evolved musically with groups and artists such as: Dan Bigras Big Band, (2009 Tour début) / “Les projets de la Baleine”, a contemporary music collective with Sylvie Chenard, Alex Bellegarde, Rémi Leclerc, (http://www.lesprojetsdelabaleine.net/) / Salam ( Moroccan music, since2006 ) / Tierra (Latin music collective) / Swing for events, in collaboration with Tandem (Les Bobards) / Mathieu Thioly &8211; participation in the album : Au Blanc des jours (2009) / Wesli Band (Funk &8211; participated in the album Kouraj) / Namori (Afro-jazz, 2007-2008) / Bombolessé (Brazilian influence, 2007-2008 ) / Kokolo (Afro-beat from New-York , 2007 Canadian tour) / First part of Alpha Blondy (2005) / plus several studio recordings, / arrangements for groups, / And has collectively played, managed and participated in the 2006 album with Gogo Jungle (Afro-funk, 2004-2007). ….

***Rachel Therrien, is graduated from jazz interpretation at l’Université de Montréal since 2010. She studied with trumpetist Ron Di Lauro. With the Big Band of l’UDeM, she has had the privilege to accompany : Klimax, Ginette Reno, Oliver Jones, Michel Legrand, Rémi Bolduc, Sophie Desmarais, Jean-Pierre Zanella, … as well as having the opportunity to participate in the « IAJE Conference » in 2008 (International Association for Jazz Education Toronto) ***….
